Screening

It’s normal to feel embarrassed when you have a screening test done. Don’t hesitate to talk about it with the nurse or the doctor. They’ve seen other patients and will know how to put you at ease.

At first, the nurse or the doctor will ask you questions on your recent and past sexual behaviour as well as your life style. These questions are designed to assess your risk level and identify the infection to look for.

Tests vary from one STBBI to another according to whether you’re showing symptoms or not. The health professional can take a sample of urine or blood. He or she can also carry out an examination or take samples of secretions. This technique isn’t very pleasant but it isn’t painful.
